Imagine that you are about to sit down to enjoy a morning cup of tea or coffee. It’s a sunny, peaceful morning, only to have that silence broken by the very loud wail of an air raid siren. Just another morning for some in the Ukraine.
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first held on April 22, 1970, and now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally.
Since 1999 Relay For Life has united a collective of Canadians, who are a force-for-life in the face of cancer. At Relay For Life events, participants of all ages gather at a community space and take turns walking around a track or path to symbolize the perseverance and action needed to improve lives and change the future of cancer forever.
During Relay, Participants of Hope are honoured during the first lap, the Lap of Hope. When the sun goes down, luminaries light the track in memory of those we have lost. The Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay For Life will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024.
At our April 24th meeting Auctioneer Shelley Haggerman auctioned a number of items that netted Parkinson’s Research $879! April is recognized as Parkinson’s Awareness Month, and in 2024, various organizations around the world are hosting events and initiatives to raise awareness about Parkinson’s disease.
John Brewster recently represented our Club at the InterClub Spelling Bee and along with Quinte Sunrise and Campbellford, was part of the winning team!
A shout out to Alan and Marijke Kester for organizng a fun social night at the Legion. Thanks to the Legion for extending a no charge rental for the evening and to the competitors at cards and pool for contributing their winnings to the Parkinson Auction.
